Tax Season Status Update
We sat down with some folks around the office and asked them what their biggest challenges have been so far this tax season and how they like to de-stress and wind down during this busy time of year. Here’s what they had to say:
Jennifer Jones, CPA (Audit Manager) –One of the biggest challenges we will face this year is helping our clients with the required ACA reporting. Calculating the information to determine the details of reporting requirements is a very complicated process. To help relax and unwind Jennifer tries to reserve a block of work-free time a few times a week.
Brett Glendening (Staff Accountant), Cody Steele (Staff Accountant), Brian Womack (Intern) – For these relatively young members of our staff, learning to juggle multiple projects for multiple partners, and mastering new software are some of the more difficult aspects of their jobs. To burn off steam, the guys like to play video games and watch TV (mostly sports). Cody is also spending his free time studying for the CPA exam. (Good luck, Cody!)
Jeff Fisher (Partner) – One of the biggest struggles for Jeff is making sure to give all of his clients the timely service they deserve given the large volume of work that moves through the office this time of year. Jeff likes to enjoy a nice glass of bourbon in the evening. He also likes to work on his spring plans to get cattle and chickens at home this spring!
Jerome Case (Partner) – For Jerome, the most challenging aspect of the 1040 filing season this year will be getting all of the health insurance reporting information required for the individual tax returns. To blow off steam on the weekends, Jerome likes to go work on the farm. He also likes to watch movies.
Ryan Falconbury (Staff Accountant) – Ryan says that the greatest challenge for him during tax season is always juggling family life and work. With three young children at home, it can be pretty exhausting! In the evenings, after getting the kiddos to bed, Ryan likes to play video games and enjoy a cold beer.
Tami Fields (Audit Manager) – Depreciation software updates have been a real challenge this year. With the new tax laws being enacted late, the software company was not able to get things updated until just last week, which made getting returns out the door particularly difficult! In her spare time, Tami likes to drink wine and run on the treadmill, although not at the same time!! She also enjoys spending her days on Sundays relaxing at home.
Sarah Boone (Staff Accountant) and Cara Johnson (Staff Accountant) – The biggest challenges for Cara and Sarah are keeping up with technology/software changes and balancing work and family. To kick back and relax, Sarah and Cara enjoy exercising, retail therapy, and spending time playing with their kids.
